Book Winners and Speech Winners

I am sooo glad it’s Friday. I seriously need a weekend.

Congrats to  Sarah (who provided the great recommendation of Jenny Simmons’ blog) and  Melodie (who never wins anything), the two winners of So Not Happening. I used a cool random number generator to draw the names. It totally beats writing names on a piece of paper and drawing…which makes me feel like a dork. And then sometimes I do the whole write names down, close my eyes, and point my pencil, and which ever one it lands on is the winner. The number generator…I should’ve thought of that much earlier. Ladies, you should get that book sometime between 4 weeks and next year. Hopefully the former. But I’m about as good at mailing things out as I am at tightrope walking and staying away from chocolate donuts. So winners, send me your home addy, and I will get those to you.

Speaking of So Not Happening (are you tired of hearing about it yet?), TitleTrakk posted a great review HERE. If you haven’t checked out this site, it’s so cool. Lots of reviews on Christian music and books. Great interviews with artists and authors as well. TitleTrakk is run by C.J. Darlington and her sister, and those girls have got it together. C.J. also just won a HUGE writing contest and her book, Thicker Than Blood, will hit shelves this January. I’m so excited for her. I think the whole writing community cannot wait to read that book. (No pressure, C.J.)

Also, check out Alloy.com. So Not Happening is so happening there! How cool is that? It’s here and there on a few other pages, as well. If you get bored, you can try to find all the SNH references. It will be like your own scavenger hunt. (You must provide your own game rules and prizes. I only provide encouragement.)

Allison Iraheta…what happened? Can you believe she got kicked off the show? I thought Simon was dead-on when he said, “Your duet with Adam probably saved you tonight.” And then she got the boot! I think she is really REALLY talented. She’s not my pick, but she’s more talented than my pick. I think, marketing/real world-wise,  the problem with her is her bit is already being done. By a lady named Pink. I really thought Danny would go. He should NEVER sing Aerosmith. Aerosmith happens to be my favorite band of all time, and I was offended on their behalf.

So we’re doing speeches allll this week. I’ve heard like 120 of them. My brain is a little numb. (More so than usual.) Their topic is a persuasive speech on why they should be principal of our school. Here are some things that have been brought up:

a. “I will get us more attractive lunch ladies. Not hot. Just more appealing.”

b. “I will have licensed chefs cook for us. Like Betty Crocker.”

c. “Some things you need to know about me as your next principal: I graduated from the eighth grade, I can solve the rubics cube in under two minutes, and I rock a mean keytar. I will now draw a picture of a keytar…”

d. “Nobody likes moldy buns.”

e. “Too many people are giving too much homework. Oh, wait. Teachers aren’t people. Oh! Except for you, Ms. Jones. Too many teachers are giving too much homework…”

f. “Right now the school keeps us away from Facebook and MySpace. That’s like keeping a cat from a mouse. They’re starving us.”

g. (From a male student) “How would I fix this school? Robots, ninjas, jet packs, and mani-pedi stations.”

h. “Lunch…it is not deluxe enough to eat.”

i. “I would create new classes. Like hunting, fishing…and shooting.”

j.  Me to a student: Sarah, was someone distracting you during your speech?
Sarah: No.
Me: Well, if someone was, and you just took up for him, then he owes you big time.
Random Student: You should charge him eight dollars.

T shirt seen on student today: BHS Thespians. We Act For the Halibut.   ( I had to read this 3x.)

Words called out during Pictionary that had nothing to do with the answer: Richard Nixon, explosive diarrhea, raindrops keep falling on my head, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Buffet, Cheeseburger in Paradise, arm blood, fire on the arm.

Overheard two students in the hall this afternoon:
Have you ever stuck a fry up your nose? (My thoughts: Who hasn’t? Last night I stuck a piece of spinach up mine. I never have that problem when I’m eating a cookie.)

Have you seen the trailer for Post Grad? It’s got Rory Gilmore in it!! And my hero, Carol Burnett. If you blink, you’ll miss Carol in the trailer (2 appearances), but she is there. In all her fabulous, amazingly funny acting glory.

So I’m getting my new computer this weekend. Any suggestions on its name? Mac is a no. That’s so unoriginal. I mean, maybe Dell stopped working in protest of his lame name. I never stopped to consider his feelings. Maybe he wanted a hot name like Raul.

Have a great weekend!!!

JEN

  3. Heather May 8th, 2009 10:19 am

SO…don’t be hatin’ on Danny! I LOVE HIM!! Seriously! No, he probably shouldn’t have done Aerosmith, but he is NOT a rocker and (aside from the scream) did okay! Allison is great…she will go far! I have faith in her! :)

Congrats on the Alloy thing-that’s very very cool!

I love reading the random comments from your students-they crack me up. I had a teen tell me the other day that she thought it was weird that I got married recently because to her I don’t seem like an adult and that I’m old enough to get married-I’m too cool. haha

And yes, I totally want to see Post Grad! Love Carol Burnett!

Ack! The boy with the accent is the infamous Paulo from Lost! He got killed off because the fans hated him so much.

No pressure? No PRESSURE? Jenny B. Jones just said the whole writing community can’t wait to read my novel, and she talks about no pressure! Ha. :)

Seriously… thanks so much for the shout out!

I think you should name your new computer “Al” or something foreign like “Antione” or maybe just Dell 2.0. Except he might take that as offensive.

    your students are awesomely entertaining.

you new computer should have a sexy name. Dante or Giancarlo or Miguel. or preppy like Blaine. Javier. Lorenzo. Franz. Big Bill. Chomski. Horas. Ernesto.

  9. Melodie May 8th, 2009 8:41 pm

oh i forgot…I think you should name your computer Jim. like Jim Halpert. :) or else perhaps Orlando. or Justin (like the ads)

  10. sarah May 8th, 2009 10:41 pm

Yay! I’m “SO” happy i won!

I have a mac computer named Yabi, inspired by the Polish word for Apple. I have no suggestions for your computer but it should definitely have a name.

#1. i accidentally stuck a cookie up my friend’s nose at her rehearsal dinner this past Friday night. seriously.

#2. name your laptop Stan. it just came to me. “Stan you’re burning up my lap and that is inappropriate” see it works.

I am so bad at mailing things too! In fact, my mom’s mother’s day present is still in my car. In the package. Not mailed. I’m a horrible daughter.

Also, I named my new laptop “Spiff City.” I’m not sure if he likes or not, but old spiffy and I are getting along pretty well so far.
