Introducing Lucy Wiltshire and Alex Sinclair
I'm on the countdown til the release of Save the Date. A few reviews are starting to trickle in, and I'm so excited to see this book on the shelves. I thought I'd tell you a little bit about Lucy and Alex.
Lucy is one unintentionally stylish gal. She runs a group home for girls who have graduated out of the foster care system and have nowhere to go, so she's not exactly driving a Benz and wearing the Louboutins. In fact, she totally turns up her nose at the rich, which makes her fake engagement with football hero and hotel heir Alex Sinclair all the more fun. As I wrote the book, I began to collect things that reminded me of Lucy.
1. She would wear this from ModCloth.
And this dress is very similar to one she wore when her heart once got broken:
Both of which, remind me of this.
She's a fan of Audrey Hepburn and Doris Day, listens to Etta James. But don't let her cool veneer fool you. Inside, she is a self-conscious nerd who loves Lord of the Rings, reading sci-fi, and has a crush on Spock. This would amuse her and her book club, the Hobbits.
When she's not calling possible leads for donations for her home, Saving Grace, or putting on a fancy dress to grudgingly swank it up at some political function with Alex, she might be trolling the internet and finding this semi-amusing.
Lucy is vintage-trendy, and she loves things like this and this.
Alex…sigh. What a layered fellow. He's lived the last decade being a football star and renowned all over the world for his athletic abilities and his rakish tendencies. But now that he's running for Congress, he needs to look more settled. But he's more than a pretty face and so not who his reputation would lead Lucy to believe he is.
He'd wear something like this from Dolce and Gabbana.

He would not be caught dead in your dad's suit. He would not wear this. He reads the Wall Street Journal behind his Sports Illustrated. He will do anything to win the seat in Congress, anything to prove he's more than a retired quarterback. And he'll do anything to get his missing brother back. Even engage himself to a woman who can't stand him.
While Lucy is more Dean Martin and Michael Buble, Alex is classic rock and Bruce Springsteen.
She was used to watching the world from a distance.
Until Alex.
He was used to getting everything he wanted.
Until Lucy.
When it comes to lies and love, nothing ever goes according to plan. So Save the Date for February first, when you can meet this unlikely couple.
Jenny has joined my list of favorite authors with Save the Date. Though filled with laugh-out-loud moments, it carries a deep message for all women. Lucy, one of the best characters I've read, continues to linger in my mind. I didn't want the story to end. Her other characters are equally memorable. Save the Date is a book I couldn't put down. Novel Journey and I give it our highest recommendation: a 5-star read. –Ane Mulligan, Novel Journey
