Book Giveaway and Other Random Bits
I cannot go OUTSIDE without getting swarmed and attacked by mosquitoes. Does anyone live in a state where these things do not exist? Because I need to move there.

Hey, let’s do another book giveaway today! Today we have the YA book, Who Made You A Princess?
You can read the synopsis and sample chapter of this book after my signoff. The girls in this series live at a private school, so it’s a nice Christian take on Gossip Girls and It Girls. This one, book four in the series, is about a girl who is expected to marry a prince, due to an arrangement with their families. Man, I hate it when your parents arrange your marriages. Such a drag. But believe me, it still happens today. I worked with a guy in college who was from India and got married to his “arranged” wife after like a week of knowing her. It’s romantic in books…but in real life?
SO…if you would like to win a copy of this book, simply leave a comment and answer the following super tough question. And the cool thing? Thanks to the publisher, I’m giving away THREE copies!!! Okay, here’s your situation. You get one day to step into the life of a movie character. Which movie? And what character? Let me see…I’d pick Mary Poppins. She sings cool songs, people obey her, she jumps into sidewalk drawrings. And she must have amazingly upper body strength to be able to fly on the handle end of an umbrella so easily. Yep, Mary Poppins. Oh, and she has a hot, flaming ongoing thing going on with Bert. Don’t tell me she doesn’t. You have until Sunday afternoon to enter. I’ll draw a winner right after my daily “Calamine Lotion Application and Mosquito Cursing” time.
So my first women’s fiction novel Just Between You and Me comes out early September. I’m getting really excited about it. We got our first review from the fabulous author and review queen Michelle Sutton. You can read it HERE. I seriously don’t even recognize myself in the review. But if Michelle wants to do crack before she writes reviews, who am I to cast judgment? If you like Christian fiction, Michelle’s Edgy Inspirational Author Blog is definitely something to check out because she reads like a million books a week (on top of working as a caseworker and writing and raising a family and occasionally eating) and posts reviews on all of them.
You know, when I see a link on E! called “Hollywood Wedgies,” I have to open it. I was glad I did! Minutes of enjoyment! You can see A list wedgies HERE. And Lady GaGa, that’s So what you get for that outfit.
How about this Facebook status one of my former students posted:
Awakened this morning by zack posing outside my house in a speedo…im up. haha.
The guy was lounging on his truck. In a Speedo. The visual both scared me and made me laugh out loud.
Some of your comments got captured as potential spam, and the “potential spam” place got moved on me, so I didn’t even see them. Until yesterday. Hannah had this to say some time ago, and since she really needed to vent, I wanted her words published. Here’s what she had to say:
skiiny jeans are still here and its half way through 2009! although i must say skinny jeans are nice if they are loose skinny’s, flares are nice if they aren’t to flared on the bottom. and what is with the 80′s look? i visited kohls.com
there are trouser thingies on those shorts!?
i think people are NOT getting any new ideas!
thanks for letting me vent on the fashion mistakes out there right now. and i agree! dont buy them and maybe they will go away! and they have a whole juniors trends section on “hippie chic” its everything in your nightmares! peace signs, tye dye, giants smiley faces. volkswagens, peace signs. and peace love and trees! its disgusting. they also have a juniors trends section to punk. neon, zebra prints, guitars, skulls, plaid, skulls, and blackness. and when did country come in? plaid shirts? come on! life isn’t a square dance! so dont dress like it is! and then there is the old days look.
Hannah is sooo right! I shop at Kohls. Or try to. And until the last couple of years, I found stuff in the junior department. Same for Charlotte Russe and Forever 21. But WHAT is it lately? The clothes are INSANE. Like 80s Hobo Chic on Acid. I cannot even shop there for the most part. Maybe that means I’m ready for THESE.
Melodie’s message also got captured and held in the magic, hidden vault-o-comments. She pointed us to the book Hauku U, which turns classics into haiku.
“Have you read War and Peace?” or something like that, you can be like, “No, but I read the haiku.”
Example:
(Pride and Prejudice)
Single white lass seeks
Landed gent for marriage, whist.
No parsons, thank you.
or
(Waiting for Godot)
Act I. “It’s hopeless.
My boots don’t fit. Where is God?”
Act II. The same thing
What a great tip, Melodie! A well-turned haiku is always handy.
So we all know I am insanely jealous over the cover of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Now everyone is jumping on the classics+weird genre. There’s a book coming out soon called Mr. Darcy, Vampyre. I know this is going to offend sooo many Austen loyalists. I love it! Then there will be Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters. Maybe I should do Katie Parker and Cavemen. Or Bella Kirkwood and Bionic Robots. My lovely editors, if you are reading this, it’s time to expand our vision.
By the way, if you read romance novels, USA Today says we are smart women! Check out their article HERE. (And if you write romance, the article says we’re smart too! Dude, I’m like smart 2x.)
I hope you have a great Wednesday. Don’t forget to answer the question-of-the-week for a chance to win one of three copies of Who Made You a Princess? Winner will be announced Monday. Can’t wait to read your answers!!!

Shelley Adina
ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Award-winning author Shelley Adina wrote her first teen novel when she was 13. It was rejected by the literary publisher to whom she sent it, but he did say she knew how to tell a story. That was enough to keep her going through the rest of her adolescence, a career, a move to another country, a B.A. in Literature, an M.A. in Writing Popular Fiction, and countless manuscript pages.
Shelley is a world traveler and pop culture junkie with an incurable addiction to designer handbags. She writes books about fun and faith–with a side of glamour. Between books, Shelley loves traveling, playing the piano and Celtic harp, watching movies, and making period costumes.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Shani Hanna returns to SpencerAcademy for her senior year after an amazing summer spent with her friends Lissa, Gillian, and Carly. But the best part about summer was meeting Danyel Johnstone. Danyel is cute, smart, cool, and super nice. All Shani has to do is get him to see her as more than just one of the gang.
But when the girls return to school, they find a new addition to the distinguished student body: Prince Rashid al Amir of Yasir, an oil-rich desert kingdom in the Middle East. Prince Rashid moved to California to prepare for an eventual MBA at Stanford…and to romance his future wife: Shani Hanna!
It turns out, Shani’s family and the prince’s go back for generations, entwined in tradition, obligation, and family honor. In each generation, members of the two families have expanded their business interests through arranged marriage. Will Shani put aside her feelings for Danyel to pursue her family’s wishes? Or will God answer her prayers for an intervention?

I would like to be Elizabeth from Pirates of the caribbean! I mean who wouldnt want to live in that era? I love how they dressed back then and how the men were gentleman, like Will
And then there are the pirates..I have always loved pirates for some reason, atleast the good ones anyways lol. So yeah I think it would be awesome to be her..she gets captured then rescued and its so romantic..*sighs*…anyways have a great day!!
I have lived in Colorado for 5 years and have been bitten by a mosquito exactly once in that time. It is amazing. You should totally relocate.
If I could jump into a movie, I’d probably go with The Notebook. And I’d be Allie. Although this would mean suffering from Alzheimer’s, it also means that I’d have been caught between Ryan Goslin and James Marsden. That girl does NOT have anything to complain about for another couple of decades.
I would like to be Gracie Hart from Miss Congeniality because she is HILARIOUS, smart, beautiful, and super brave. She gets to rescue people, like a superhero
. It would just be awesome to be her. (Not to mention, she has the coolest laugh ever)….
I would like to be….Lucy Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia because she doesn’t stop believing in Aslan, she’s pretty, she’s brave, she never doubts, and she is very nice. So that’s why I would like to be Lucy.
I usually only encounter misquitos on camping trips. One year we went to Clearlake and waited by the visitors center to see the bats come out at night. I was chewed up from head to toe. Why do the bats come out at that time?? To eat all the misquitos!! So get a bat house and start raising bats!!!
the character I would love to be is…. Gee you have me thinking… There are so many to choose from… I think I would have to choose… Dorothy from
Wizard of Oz! Getting to go to a magical place and meet new friends. There I did it, I picked one!
I’d be Giselle from Enchanted, hands down, no questions asked. I mean, come on! She sings, she dances, New York City creatures clean her room for her, she wears adorable little clothes and has two guys after her! Plus, she’s got a voice. Just unbelievable. So yeah, I’d totally be her.
I would want to be Carmen from Spykids!! I’d get all those coolie gadgets. Plus, I would not have to change my name…so no confusion! Double-plus, I already have frizzy brown hair, so I wouldn’t be in shock about that, only about the changing bodies thing.
ive been forced to do all my cloths shopping at Platos Closet for the last 2 years due to fashion disasters. who are these people that dictate our fashion and why are they still allowed to be paid a fortune for booty shorts with suspenders?
and i might like to either be Ginny Weasley or Pooty Tang. different reasons. magic would be awesome. but Pooty is just… there is no word for him. wait i take that back id wanna be Auntie Mame. shes fabulous. but you dont have to consider me for the contest i just had fun thinkin about it ^_-
I second Micah… come to Colorado! We’ve had tons of rain this summer and still no skeeters!
Tammy, Elizabeth is a GREAT choice. That would be so fun. Though I think I would kill myself swashbuckling AND wearing those dresses.
Micah and Kate, you guys have that whole altitude thing going on. But I will be in Denver for a few days in Sept!
Sarah, also a great movie pick–though a sad ending. Cute boys though!
Hannah, I love Gracie Hart. What a great pick. I liked Miss Congeniality I the best by far. d
Sherry, there are a few bats around here, but I don’t think they realize their calling and purpose in life. Dorothy would be a fun pick. And great shoes!
Patty, Giselle can also get easy wrinkle touch-ups too! She would never need Botox. And roaches to help her clean…
Carman, Carmen has such fun gadgets. Good choice!
Colene, you are in the running for a book, and that’s that. And I have GOT to check out a Platos closet. We have one in Rogers now.
How do I get the book or am I too late?
What a info-ganza here today. So much to wander around it–esp. the Hollywood wedgies. Loved it. Is that a regular because I’d love to subscribe to that.
Haiku U.–darn, we could’ve thought of that! We’d be lounging in Bermuda from royalties instead of whining about school starting.
I just saw the cover for Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters and it CRACKED ME UP!!
hey can I still enter? well.. I’m gonna’ try!
I would be Harminie from the Hary Potter movies. I would like to be thet smart, and be able to do all that wizardy stuff!
Am I too late to enter? I’ll just post my idea anyways:)
I’d probably be Haddasah (Esther) from “One Night With the King.” Yes, she did have to go through the time in her life when she was taken from her home and put in a palace where she was probably scared, but she found favour with King Xerses, and she lived a long, and happy life after that. It was one of the greatest love stories!
whoa i am so like wierded out ( my own word a mix between awkwardness, happiness and excitment) that you posted that. when i wrote that i was sorta angry. i didn’t think you’d post that. well now everyone can visit kohls.com and see their insulting “fashion”. if that is what they call it.
and lady gaga needs to find some other clothes to wear in public. LOL
oh and you are not the only one suffering from mosquitos. down here in georgia is where they are at.
oh and what is up with the head bands? i was stopping in american eagle and i was this cute headband. turns out your wear it AROUND your head. what is up with that?
I would want to be someone that could do magic. I have kids and husband and would love to clean easily. so the only person that comes to mind would be Samantha from Bewitched or Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie.
Does that count? I hope so!
Thanks
Joan Wilder from Romancing The Stone.
She’s has the best job ever – romance novelist.
She has a sister AND a cat.
She finds the man of her dreams, her “real life Jesse”, while on a thrilling adventure in Columbia! (A place I’d normally be too scared to venture.)
oops!
* She has the best…
Nani from Lilo and Stitch. She’s pretty with curves, confident, and cool. Not only is she a hard worker, but she knows how to have fun. She loves her sister and makes me laugh. Plus, she can surf.
Kayla, not too late! Just tell us a movie character you’d be!
Christa, I TOTALLY wish Hollywood wedgies was a regular feature. I even love the title “Hollywood Wedgies.” I’ve found myself randomly saying that out loud a few times. Somehow it makes me feel better.
Katie J, Hermoine is a GREAT pick! I can’t wait to see her in the next movie!
Tiffany, great reason for picking Nani. I like it!
Katie, I haven’t seen Romancing the Stone in forever. Decades. I should rent that again. I remember it was a great movie!
Debbie F, when I was a little kid I always pretended to be Jeanie or Samantha. Mostly Samantha. It was only last year that I accidentally figured out how to twitch my nose. I was very proud, despite the fact that nothing happened.
Alannah, Esther would be an interesting pick too. Scary, yet cool, and then scary again, and then cool. I probably would pee my pants a lot if I stepped into Esther’s shoes.
Hannah, it would’ve shown up in the comments anyway (and did), but I didn’t see it in time. It was great! Thought of you when I posted the headband thing in Friday’s post.
Hmmm… I would be – and maybe this is a bit of a cheat, since she was in the video games & comics first – Lara Croft. She’s athletic, beautiful, gets to run around ancient ruins solving puzzles & shooting mummies… and she lives in a giant mansion with an enormous library. Aww yeah. My second choice would be Eowyn from LOTR. That woman kicked some serious butt in Return of the King, plus she married a nice, down-to-earth, handsome guy… oh wait, I already have one of those!
Heehee.
I hope I”m not too late to enter, I just got back from camp. I’d have to second the Elizabeth Swann thing, or else be Wendy in Peter Pan…but the new one, where she fights and has romance and stuff, not the Disney version.
And thanks for mentioning my comment.
I would want to be Susan Pevensie from Narnia. She gets to wear armor, have a deadly shot with the bow and arrow, AND while fighting in a battle, have the ability to NOT smear her mascara. That’s what I call a role model!!! : )
the ugly truth about lady gaga

I agree with Colene, you should check out Plato’s closet. There is one here in MN. So….it’s a really cool place, and since the only places that i can shop is the goodwill and plato’s closet, I choose plato’s.
