I don’t want to brag, but by noon I will officially be on Christmas vacation for two weeks! WOOO! Congrats to all you other vacationers out there. Bring on the tinsel and merriment. And snow. Please let there be snow….  We actually have some favorable conditions for snow on Christmas Eve, and I’m pretty stoked about that.

We wrapped up our semester in speech class with some lovely presenatations on famous people or vacation spots. Here are a few highlights from my students:

“Hopefully I’ve convinced you that J-Lo isn’t just beauty and butt.”

“Johnny Depp went down the wrong street. He got into drugs and drinking and all that stuff Officer Moss tells us not to do.”

“Chuck Norris…I don’t know what makes him so awesome. Maybe it’s his wavy red locks.”

“Biggie Smalls lived the typical gangster rap life cycle. An early life of crime, sold crack, got some chicks preggo, more crack, and got shot up in a G fashion.”

So tonight I’m going to a concert to see Chris Tomlin, Christy Nockels, Audrey Assad, and speaker Louie Giglio. I’m really exited about it. Tickets went on sale on September 16th at midnight. I had ours by 12:01. I don’t mess around. Especially when it’s to see Tomlin.  (Plus it was the night before I left for a trip to Colorado, so of course I was up anyway just getting started on my packing.)

My friend Kim is their personal chauffeur today. Is that not the coolest? Well, we hope it’s cool. She actually has no idea what that will entail. It could be nothing more than  delivering French fries to the drummer and Tampax to Christy, but who knows.  I’m hoping for the best for her. AND I gave Kim three copies of Just Between You and Me to give to Giglio (for his wife. or the trashcan. whichever), Nockels, and Audrey. I already feel like the biggest dork. I  mean who DOES that? Tons of authors, that’s who. I always hear stories of bold things authors do to get their books (or even booksmarks) in people’s hands, and I’m like WHAT? You decorated Joel Osteen’s lawn with life-size cutouts of yourself and your book? You ran across the field  naked at Super Bowl half-time, carrying a banner blazened with your book title? You stormed first class on American Airlines fight 104 and handed out bookmarks, koozies, and your latest release to every passenger who looked half-way literate?  I just can’t do any of that.

And even though we’ve had lots of book-giving-worthy people come through our town and church, I couldn’t do it. I had a chance to give Taylor Swift a book a few years ago before she was GIGANTIC (in the fame sense, not in the “I’m above a size OO” sense), and fumbled. And when I say “give her a book,” I mean my friend Sal was gonna do it for me.  But today…I crossed that line.  It sure helps to surround yourself with friends who are bolder than you. Highly recommended.

So pray Kim gets a chance to give them their books, that she gets to drive cutie Chris Tomlin around, and that I don’t lose my senses and toss my bra onstage. I think if we accomplish one out of three, it will equal a raging success.
